Thanks to the person that recommended this book to me. I just finished it
and it was terrific. Makes me alternatingly want to hike the AT (part of it)
and never go in the woods again!
I love that the author was born just a year before I was, too.

If you liked Walk in the Woods, you might want to try the other
things that he has written...my favorite is the book about traveling
around Europe (Neither Here nor There by Bill Bryson) It also
contains more of his friend Katz.

Bill Bryson has a whole series of excellent Travel Stories. He has an
Aussie book out that I am looking forward to reading... Check them out,
they are a great read. He is a very funny writer...
